What I use Sunday: Fantastical

Just wanted to take a moment and share some thoughts on this awesome Calendar app for Mac/iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch. Fantastical is just a expertly executed and super-power Calendar and Reminders app. I have every version of it now and use it religiously for work and personal reminders and calendar events. It does a great job at integrating your time-based reminders from the built in Calendar and Reminders app into one view. On the Mac I love the combined calendar view that superimposes reminders into your weekly calendar view and the drop-down menu bar view is great to glance at your todo list without keeping a full application window open.

On the iPad it’s a great all in one organization app. On the Apple Watch it’s complication is the best demo for the time travel functionality that I know and on my default watch face when I’m trying to get stuff done while on the go. I really like how it integrates with the built in Apple Reminders and Calendar system so I can dictate reminders and calendar to events with Siri when I’m waking around with my Apple Watch or when I’m driving in the car via the “Ahoy Siri0" functionality that lets me yell commands at my iPhone.

The iOS widget is great, showing you your upcoming event and if you’re like me and like to have colored reminders and calendars to separate your personal/errands/work reminders it’s great for that. If you have corporate Exchange account it works brilliantly with that as well. Finally, it supports natural-language input from your iPhone and Mac so if you type “Remind me at 1pm tomorrow to Call Steve” it will fill out all the appropriate reminder information and be smart enough to know that it means a you want a reminder at 1pm and not a calendar event.

Even the notifications on the iPhone and Mac are more granular that the ones Apple gives you, allowing you to snooze reminders and events in 15, 30, 45, and 60 minute intervals instead of the normal snooze, dismiss, or tomorrow you get elsewhere. Overall, I’be been very pleased with my purchase and cannot highly recommend an application suite as much if you are in the Apple ecosystem. Apps like this keep me coming back time and time again to the Apple ecosystem.
