I remember paying $400 for my first iPod with Video. It was a transformative device for me in high school. I happened to get a lot of Best Buy gift cards that year for my birthday and Christmas so I used the extra spending money I had acquired and bought that. It was a transformative product for me. I really loved that iPod and it was the gateway drug for the Apple ecosystem. It didn’t have all the features of other MP3 players, but it worked exceedingly well for wha I bought it for and I love that device for years until I bought my first iPhone (iPhone 3G). More recently, I purchased AirPods and love them. They were the most expensive headphones I’ve ever bought, but I love the sound, portability, and feature set. They are tiny and always win me at work or on the go because of how fast and easy they are to pair to all of my gear. I’ve been very impressed with them and like the Apple Watch I would not want to go back to a time without them. I’ve never had a good set of speakers so I’m interested in hearing more about the Homepod later this year. I already use Siri on my iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch so I think this should be a nice extension of that. I have an Echo Dot right now and to be honest I use very few of the skills beyond making reminders and reading the news. I mainly use it for listening to music at night, listening to the news, an alarm clock in the morning, and controlling my Hue lights. Out of the box the Homepod does everything I want out of a smart device right now and the A8 processor on the inside makes me feel like the AppleTV in my living room it’s only got in to get better with time.
