This device should scare the shit out of the Windows team
As somebody who uses an iPad Pro at work, home, and school this is a very interesting Chromebook to me. It’s expensive for a Chromebook, but compared to the $900 I spent on my iPad Pro I am typing on right now it’s a good deal. The idea having having an iPad-Pro-class device that has the full desktop version of Google Chrome along with the ability to run any Android app is a very intriguing product. Android tablet apps are virtually non-existence, but I can see how devices like this could change things, especially as progressive-web-apps start to get more traction in the developer community. I can see consumption apps like Netflix, Hulu, Kindle, Flipboard, and Feedly going with the PWA app format and then having access to Android games making this an interesting alternative to the iPad from a consumption perspective. I don’t have any experience with Android games on a ChromeOS tablet, but I have to imagine the gaming experience is going to be better than a baseline MacBook or Surface Laptop. I also really like how the keyboard base appears to have a traditional laptop henge and not be limited to the 1x angle that the iPad Pro is limited to. I’m really looking forward to Google I/O later this year to see what comes from the ChromeOS team. If I worked on the Windows team I’d be worried about this device.
