Fantastic Friday Read: “Universal Control was worth the wait — here’s how it’s changing the way I work”
I have been using Universal Control for a month now and its changed my relationship between the my iPad and Mac. Its been nice to have the Sidecar feature for the last couple of years to be able to use my iPad Pro as a secondary screen in a pinch, but a lot of time I just want to use the iPad as an iPad since my 11" iPad can be kinda hard to really use as a secondary screen unless I run all the Mac apps in full screen. I find the ability to take a screenshot on my Mac and then drop it to an app on the iPad like Apple Notes or OneNote to be particularly useful when attending online webinars or classes instead of having to wait for iCloud sync to resolve the changes. Also, the ability to use control the iPad with your Mac’s keyboard and mouse feels like borderline magic when you’re working, particularly with you have Focus Modes that sync between devices keeping your notifications in sync between the devices. Universal control really makes your iPad and Mac feel like part of the same device continuum as you can keep your hands on your mouse and keyboard without having to switch input modes while you work or play. I didn’t think I would use it as much as I do now, but I don’t know how I would go back to not having it. It makes my iPad and Mac feel like they’re part of the same continuous workflow experience and it really cuts down on the friction of using multiple devices.
