Fantastic Friday Read: “I watched McDonald’s customers choose between a screen and a human. It was startling”
I have been using touchscreen and table-side ordering for the last couple of years at both Panera and McAlisters and from my experience I find it nicer to order that way because it gives me the ability to see pictures of what I’m ordering and also see stuff like calories, nutritition, and my rewards with both of these places more readily. I’m a creature of habit so I eat the same handful of things to stick to my sorority-girl diet (Soups, sandwiches, and salads) because I’m at the stage of my life that I rather have a bland diet throughout the work week and get something tasty on the weekends versus being miserable and sick all the time because my body is a scumbag to me. I don’t think that cashiers are going anywhere personally in sit-down places like Panera or McAlisters, but I could see for fast food places like McDonalds it being appealing. Another factor for me is regaining my time back on my lunch break. By ordering tableside from my iPhone or iPad I can put in my order and then read, write, or game for the 10 minutes that I would be standing in line.
