Fantastic Friday Read…err…Watch: “How iPhone Can DESTROY Android”[iPhone God Mode]
Good video from Rene Ritchie about the idea of the iPhone having a “God Mode” and an Easy mode that people can pick when they set up the device. He notes that the iPhone Pro lacks Pro versions of the software, some default apps/ some file extensions/some background access/some multi-window, but not all. Still complex for the 90% of the customer base, but not complex enough for 10% of the power user population. Samsung has this idea for the Galaxy phones and I think that maybe a good idea. Meaning the basic mode with less features turned on by default like Focus Mode, Command Center, default apps set to Apple’s, and a more locked down security model and then “God Mode” (I think Apple would call this “Pro Mode”), that gives you the ability to set default apps, change your icons, enables things like Focus Mode/Command Center, lets you side load apps, lets you change default apps, ability to change default apps, etc. to turn the iPhone into a more general-purpose computer. I think this idea. I imagine it would be a huge lift though and I doubt that Apple would do something like that because they do like to make decisions on behalf of their end-users, that’s part of the charm is the simplification of choices. Apple users trust Apple to make the right decision most of the time. I to get Rene’s big point, it would be nice to have a system toggle for Pro’s to really take advantage of the phone or iPad’s hardware a bit more with more powerful software. If any device could benefit from this, it would be the iPad Pro.
