Fantastic Friday Read “Bring the MacBook Back”
I’ve been meaning to write this article for a while, but Basic Apple Guy beat me to the punch my first laptop was a 2008 white MacBook and I loved that computer. I feel like since the baseline Touch Bar 13" MacBook Pro with 2x Thunderbolt ports came the Apple laptop product line has been a confusing mess beyond just naming. I do hope that when it comes times to refresh the MacBook Air this fall with a new design and the M2 processor that Apple does kill the Air branding and reestablish the Macbook -> MacBook Pro product matrix. Let the Macbook be colorful, light, and have lots of battery life with minimal ports to focus on wireless technologies like Airdrop or Airplay. The MacBook Pro should be as thick and heavy has it needs to be as a portable workstation with a focus on power, ports, great memory/storage options, and technologies that professionals care about like ProMotion, TrueTone, etc. Let the consumer machines be the best consumer machines they can be and let the professional machines be the best Pro machines they can. I love how they did that with the new colorful M1 iMacs and then introduced the Mac Studio Desktop.
