Apple Apologize for Battery Slowdown and offers $30 replacements in 2018

A good response. Smartphone batteries, like car batteries, have always been consumables, but with people keeping their phones longer and longer these days I think that going forward after 18–24 months it would be a worthwhile investment to extend the life of your most personal computer. Apple should have been more transparent from the get-go, but as somebody who had an iPhone 3GS with a bad battery a few years ago that would randomly shut off I would have much preferred a slower phone to one that randomly shut me off. I think that they did the better engineering decision to err on the side of safety (As we saw last year bad phone batteries can explode violently), but going forward they need to do what they do with the Mac and simply tell people their battery needs to be replaced. I’m happy they finally decided to say something about this issue and do the right thing for their customers.
